I agree, in that I'm not personally moved to read violence for violence's sake. If I do stumble upon anything with extreme violence, at best I tend to skim those sections. And I absolutely agree that we have a duty to think of the bigger picture when we write. But one man's mindless violence is another's escapism isn't it and as literature is not censored in our world, there has to be a place for it. I do think that generally, in the books I like anyway, even in the most violent of stories the moral compass is in there somewhere, the good eventually triumphs, at least in some form!
